I want to write about something great in my life....but i cant seem to find the words to start flowing out of my mouth.............I think ever since I was a little kid that I have always taked about what I dont know and have always asked questions to those whom do know the answers I am seeking. Well I am here not to ask questions but to tell you what I do know. This is probably going to be one of my weirder entry's but I dont really care! This is what I do know...I am Shauna Nicole Adler and the last paper we did on who we were was probably one of the most informatble papers I ahve ever written. As I wrote the paper I never knew that I had kept a jounral throughout the time since I was 12. I never knew that so much emotion could be put forth into something so small. And I really didnt know that something so small could mean something so big. Today I heard people talking about how they hated dishonesty. Well i then realized that there is more honesty, self dignity, and truth in every journal that has every been written then anyone really realizes....I am probably scaring all of you ..but...hey ...its life... so sorry! hey everyone well this first day has been kind of a pain for me. I dont know how everyone elses went but i just dont want to do anything I am supposed to be here studying but that is the last thing that i have been doing. Well i hope if your like me that you can get back in the routine soon but if not i dont blame you. I really dont want to be here I went back to colorado and i had so much fun just relaxing. Hopefully soon i can get back there. I am hoping i can get an earlier ticket on the 18th but if not i guess i get to stay here until the 21st. oh well no matter what i do i guess i cant really change. I went hunting the last two days that i was there and i tell you it was the funnest thing that i had done in a long time. I truly forgot just how much i missed and loved hunting. Up here i was unable to go just because i never really knew hte seasons or did I know anyone to go with. It is kind of ironic this year hunting so far for me. I am not in longmont anymore and this year i have more land to hunt on then ever. And it is good hunting land also. Not just some crappy field that i usually get. For the first time in a long while we were able to get a lot of birds to take notice of us. We had a group of about 25 come in and on the first shot Me and my friend Eric dropped one. I am truly craving some meat from the goose. I had to leave the next days so i was unable to cook it. I think i will make some fajitas out of it or i will cook it with apples. MMMM making me hungry. well i should really go back up to the rest of study tables but Shauna and I already got introuble so i really dont want to. I dont think this study tables really works. Not for me atleast. I am someone who can not really be forced to do something and that is just what i am. Forced to study. I would study so much more if i knew that i did not have to go to these. I tell myself that i will study here but of course i never do. Well anyway enough BS i better let everyone go. later

The hypertext readings were very interesting yet confusing. It would go to a sepertate page with different information which I didnt really feel tied in real well with what the rest of the reading was dealing with. I did find a couple that made more sense and were actually pretty decent.

well it's late and i want to go to class in the morning so i'll make this short and sweet. I read some of the hypertext stuff, i guess i didn't really go too deep into it, but it seems to me it's kind of a mix. People made web pages with links and stuff so it sorta made sense, or worked well and served it's purpose. Hypertext seems to me like it's a way of writing books and stories in the format of a web page. It's sort of revolutionary as far as writing goes cause it makes it easy to jump around and stuff. So i think it's kinda like regular websites except instead of listing information it tells a story.

Clarifications.

Hypertext is VERY non-linear. VERY unlike how books are put together. But the way I look at them is that they are like those books that ask you at the end of the chapter where you want the story to go and then YOU decide by going to the chapter that coordinates with that (like linking to a new story). Or hypertext could be looked at as simply a maze of stories to follow by jumping on this or that link.

THE CONNECTION to these hypertext writings for you all is this: When you put any writing on the web, it becomes a hypertext writing. When you all put together your online portfolios in Dec... that's what you'll be doing- creating your own hypertext. You can add color and images and things of that sort to a normal, traditional essay.

PAPER #3 is different for you all BECAUSE we've been doing research based stuff. This one is ALL personal. YOU have to simply answer WHO ARE YOU? It is vague, I know, but... just think about it. WHO are you? There are many, many ways to go about doing this:
-Process from past to present like MY draft I had you all read.
-Who are you in terms of adjectives: funny, smart, quirky... etc and place stories with those to SHOW us what you mean.
-Look at some psychology stuff about Freud and the Ego and the Id.. for any of you science people, this may be something fun.
-Look at astrology.. are you a true Sagittarius?
-WHo are you in terms of family.. are you the leader? Are you a leader within in your group of friends then too?

These are just SOME ideas.

I found the hypertext things to be confusing. I got lost every time i tried to read one. I tried reading and didn't understand a link so i clicked it, and didn't understand about 5 more in that so i clicked them, I was so incredibly lost i had to close the window.

I liked the hypertext writing that actually pertained to people and what inspired them to do what they are doing today. The some of the other writings were a little bit to far fetched for me. The hypertext readings were quite interesting. Although it is a little confusing as to were you started out once you start clicking on all of the links in the readings. A few were strange. The one about Techne was eerie looking. I found a hypertext cookbook that is interesting, but needs more content.

It was very interesting to view these different hypertext works and it gives me a little better understanding of just what hypertext is. I really enjoyed the document by Dr. Kevin Brooks class about Ben and Jerrys. It was a very origional idea and really caught my eye. Presentations at 8 this morning went well (hopefully, 9:30 will go the same?). I am thoroughly impressed with the projects and papers that this "stretch" idea has created.

For Tuesday (we'll be in IACC 114), search for the terms "hypertext" and "mystory".. bring in a copy of something that caught your eye.

On Tuesday, we'll look at those hypertext writings you all found (you won't present them, just tell us where to go and then we can look at 'em)/ones that I have found, sign up for conferences, and use the last chunk of the hour for brainstorming/writing up your rough drafts for Paper #3. Conferences will be from Thursday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon. We will have class (Peer Review Day) on Thursday- bring 3 copies of your rough draft for others to look at.

Well I think my web site is finally all pieced together. Its not quite everything I had planned to do with it but they said if I wanted to make it any bigger I would have to pay a monthly fee to get more bandwith. That was a little depressing, but I guess I really shouldnt complain about a free service. I'm sitting here... thinking about my iMovie... and im' not really sure that i did everything right. i didnt put any real information into it. i hope that i wasnt supposed to. i put EVERY visual effect i could into it.... with putting in black and white, speeding clips up, reversing clips, splitting clips, putting in title pages, transitions, words on the clip and so much more. so i learned everyhting i could about imovie, but i hope that that is enough to make my project okay. i feel like i might have misunderstood whta the content of the imovie hsould have been, so i geuss we'll see what happens.

Comments from conferences thus far: Although I like when students design their own outlines, I think giving you all one possible one this time definitely helped out. I didn't get to see your rough drafts for paper #1 which was maybe a small mistake, but I thought allowing you to go to your peers would be better.. for you (to get to know others) and for me (more time for me to concentrate on other teaching stuff)...

Paper #3 (to be talked about/examples handed out= Tuesday November 5) will be even more interesting and fun for you all, I think.

I just finished my last sketch for my arch sketch book. The first few looked really good but the rest sucked. Luckly the drawings aren't graded on quality, just the knowledge of the drawing techniques. Right now I am supposed to be studying for an architecture test, but I decided to wright some of my stretch project essay. Speaking of the stretch project I can't get into my website. Some kind of transfer interruption. So I can't work on my website. I'm really bumbed because I was really getting into it. I have 4 pages which doesn't include the homepage. My favorite page is the MLS page, because I love soccer.

The first two writing conferences today went well. Two good rough drafts.. and I hope you two (Joe and Amanda) can take them, add to them, etc, and make them even better.

How are the rest of you coming along.. with projects or papers? Remember that as long as you let your reader, somehow, know of the path of your essay (Possible sentence focus: "Before giving the details of how I went about doing this project, I plan to give history/background/reasoning/insights/etc.. to *whatever*."), the paper will have flow and give your reader an organization to follow.

Oh- I have good news (well, for me and kind of for you all too)... A paper of mine (that gigantic blogging paper) got accepted at a conference.. the University of Alberta, Canada actually.. it's in DECEMBER (brr.. cold here= colder there!!) and, *gasp* I might have to cancel class on a Thursday!! I know you are all devastated (find some tissues), but it's important to me. Plus, it's a conference JUST for graduate students! Yes, I am a geek.

For my project, I am doing a powerpoint on one of my favortie things in the world. I'm doing it on dance. It is basically my life other than school, because that is what takes most of my time. For my project i am making an iMovie on gymnastics. I am having a lot of fun video taping, but i havent gotten so far as to use the whole editing and revising part yet. I have researched it, and it seems to be pretty self-explanatory. I am excited to get to that stage so that i can start seeing this whole thing come together, and i hope i dont run into too many complications. (seems like those are inevitable when relying so much on technology! )

Ok well I guess I will start out by saying that last week helped a lot with our project. Shauna and I were abel to get quit a bit of information but honestly I thought that we would have more information than this. I thought a lot of the states in the US would be much like Colorado's government DNR site, but unfortunately for me that is not the way it is. I have found some sites that have the information but in order to get the endangered species you have got to send in like $30. Shauna and I have started our searches in kinda two different areas. I have been looking at each state while she has been looking for a very broad search in US and also for individual articles on certain animal. we got the information but like I said I personally thought that we would have more. Im unsure what Shauna's expectations were about this because I dont think she really went into these sites as much before I have and the only reason that I have gone to these sites is that I hunt and fish and the gov't sites are great for finding out information. Well our main plan for this project know is to go into each state if possible and list each and every animal that is endangered and then we are going to go into four specialty states and tell about our each individual animal and explain about the animal there. I think we are going to plan on finding How they are endangered and Why. How many are still around. And the efforts of what they are trying to do to get the animal off the endangered list.

i'm working on my project. i've debated on many differnet ideas and different ways to approach it. I think I finally came up with an idea. Doing it on my self. I think that will work??? Oh well gotta get some more info.

Um one more question on our research project........can you email me and give me the finer points of it.....like what we need to write about.........tool kit???? I really still dont understand what we are suppose to include in the essay itself. I am doing research on endangered animals.....should I write about what I learned about them? Thanks Shauna

Shauna, I would (to make it easier on YOU) just use the templates that most free website places give you.. like tripod.com or geocities.com ... With them, you and James can just plug in all your research. IF you want to go with something fancier/cooler- use Dreamweaver (might want to watch/view one of their tutorials first to see how to set up a cool, simple page, etc)... {HOWEVER, since you are doing a huge research paper/project (vs. students that are teaching themselves Dreamweaver, etc.. you both are teaching yourselves about your major instead..)- you don't need to place it on the web.. BUT since we are doing online portfolios later in the semester, you MIGHT want to just learn how those work now.} Essentially, you both could put together a research paper or presentation (for right now) and then place it all on the web later too. I hope this isn't too confusing.

I finally got onto this class blog!! It took me forever! I have been working on my project and I am finding it very interesting as well as helpful in helping me make a few decisions with my major. It hasn't seemed to be so much work because I am gettting a lot of useful information out of it.

Great projects thus far!!.. And Shauna/James- you can make your goals a little less than you thought if you wish.. I don't want you to be overloaded.. just stretched a bit, ok? And before I get started on my own homework here is a link to another educational article that deals with education in the year 2020 which really dives into WHAT should students KNOW BY THEN. Somewhat deals with interactivities and ... well, interesting stuff. Check it out when you get time.

My website is really getting interesting now that i found this really cool website at www.animationfactory.com which allows you to download many animated images to add to your website. The layout of my website is all complete now I just have to dig through my mountain of research and decide what to include in my website. It is fun making a website but also challenging since you cant just drag things wherever you want them and have to go through a whole long process to move a picture to the left just 1 cm. Anyway thats enough about that, I also had a chance to watch the Matrix on DVD with a few friends the other night. This wasnt the first time I had seen it but watching it again made me pick out many of the details I missed the first time around. It is almost mind boggeling to think of things like that. What really does distinguish reality from imagination? Its anybodys guess, I just hope its not just imagination but also reality that I get an A on my paper ;)

Today I put soem more pictures on my website. I'm also trying to find some more info and pictures to use. I learned how to change the background of my website. They don't have that many choices for backgrounds that I actually liked. Well gata go study for a math test. ;)

My website is making progress. Today I figured out how to upload pictures from another source such as a digital camera. I have also had to learn how to use Adobe Photoshop in order to resize pictures so that they fit into the web page better.

Remember, everyone, to blog on here next week at least once (maybe on Thursday or Friday) to let us (me, especially) know where you are at with your project. I will try to answer any questions you have with whatever.. ALSO, make sure you watch a movie that deals with technology and the self (like The Matrix) or basically has the main character questioning WHO he/she is as a person.. what their purpose is.. Bicentennial Man would be an example.. they do not HAVE to deal with technology.. but that connection (tech and humans) is the connection we will be bringing up in Unit 3 of this class.

Hey everyone. Wow was that painful! Trying to log onto the blog was deffinetly a task. But I'm finally here, well I guess I'll talk a little about the stretch project that we are working on. I've decided to do a web page on colleges that offer Mastors degrees or Graduate programs in my field of study. Which in this case is Arcitecture and Engineering. After I changed my major last year, I got the wonderful task of rethinking my whole future (in schooling that is). I think that this stretch project is going to be helpful and at the same time kind of fun. It'll be helpful because it gives me the oppertunity to research these schools and possible make some decisions, it will als be fun in the sense that I get to try new things and build a web site. I have built a website before, but that was a drag, it was for an english class last year and they were so structured. We couldn't just creat what we wanted we had to do everything the teachers way. Well hopefully things go well as i keep plugging along with my project, see you all soon.

I think the Well paints a good picture of the internet community. Many people use the internet daily and it is very much a part of their life. People can create friendships and relationships over the internet. The distance between people all around the world is getting much smaller with the new ways of communitcation. A global community has begun.
